[Review] Clinique Moisture Surge 100H Auto-Replenishing Hydrator

Have always been a fan of Clinique’s skincare range, and since the encounter with Clinique Dramatically DifferentTM Moisturizing Gel was nothing short of fantastic, I decided to give the (not so) new kid on the block a go. The Clinique Moisture SurgeTM 100H Auto-Replenishing Hydrator is an upgrade on their classic Dramatically DifferentTM  Moisturizing range, a patented, oil-free gel-cream that claims to penetrate deep into the skin layers to give 100 hours of hydration even after washing your face. The hydrator gel consists of exclusive aloe bio-ferment and hyaluronic acid acting as a dual-action hydrator, coupled with ion-activated aloe water and caffeine in the Auto-Replenishing Technology to help skin rehydrate naturally, locking in moisture barrier for a plump, healthy flow at +174% moisture levels. It is also free of alcohol, fragrances, parabens and sulphates. Full list of ingredients below:

Water, Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Trisiloxane, Trehalose, Sucrose, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/Vp Copolymer, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Silybum Marianum (Lady’S Thistle) Extract, Betula Alba (Birch) Bark Extract, Saccharomyces Lysate Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Thermus Thermophillus Ferment, Caffeine, Sorbitol, Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-12, Sodium Hyaluronate, Caprylyl Glycol, Oleth-10, Sodium Polyaspartate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Polysaccharides, Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate, Saccharide Isomerate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Glyceryl Polymethacrylate, Tromethamine, Peg-8, Hexylene Glycol, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Citric Acid, Bht, Disodium Edta, Sodium Citrate, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol, Red 4 (Ci 14700), Yellow 5 (Ci 19140)

How to Use

Pat a coin-sized amount on to clean skin after toning, twice a day in the morning and night. Can be used under or over make up and also as a 5-minute mask. The Clinique Moisture SurgeTM 100H Auto-Replenishing Hydrator comes in a recyclable glass container in 4 sizes- 15ml, 30ml, 50ml and 75ml. The hydrator is a nice pinkish gel without any scent, and has a refreshing hand feel similar to aloe vera gel.

Verdict

The Clinique Moisture SurgeTM 100H Auto-Replenishing Hydrator spreads easily on application without any sticky after-feel and absorbs quickly into the skin to leave a smooth, hydrated glow. I had higher expectations of this because of its 100H marketing claim, hence was slightly disappointed when my skin still got shiny with oil within a couple of hours after application. Surprisingly, while the application of the gel hydrator was more comfortable with its initial cooling sensation, the long-lasting moisturizing effect did not seem to do distinctly better than their classic Dramatically DifferentTM Moisturizing Gel. In fact, I got more days of dry cheeks with this than the latter, and I often had to top up with an additional hydrating serum or essence of some sort. Usually, if the skin is hydrated, there would be lesser acne or whiteheads but the effect did not come through with this one. Sadly, I would not recommend this for combination skin. You are better off sticking with their classics!
