Both cult favourites, the fresh Black Tea Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence has joined the top ranks of fresh brand Soy Face Cleanser and Rose Face Mask since debut as one of their must-have items. On the other hand, SKII reputation is unparalleled in the realm of Facial Treatment Essences- they were the first brand that discovered the precious yet previously obscure miracle rice PiteraTM, along with a long list of A-list celebrity fans such as Chloe Moretz, Tang Wei, Ni Ni to boot.
The Black Tea Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence is made with fermented black tea, to smooth, brighten and protect against pollution and free radicals. Also, hyaluronic acid and mandarin peel extract promotes a moist, supple and even complexion. It claims to be a multi-benefit antioxidant prep step that tones and hydrates for 24 hours.
On the other hand, SKII Facial Treatment Essence is made from over 90% PiteraTM, a natural by-product from fermented rice yeast, a rich liquid containing amino acids, vitamins and organic acids to improve skin luminosity, decrease wrinkles, lighten dark spots and retain moisture. It claims to help you achieve radiant, younger-looking Crystal Clear Skin.

How to Use
As per all Facial Treatment Essences, pat gently 2-3 drops of fresh Black Tea Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence onto your face and neck after cleansing and toning. As with all fresh products, this essence smells heavenly– the sweet smell of tea, fruits and flowers tingles your senses as it absorbs quickly into your skin to a refreshing finish. Immediately, your face looks hydrated, clear and radiant.
With the SKII Facial Treatment Essence, the liquid initially is fragrance-less, but gives off a slightly fermented sour smell when opened over a long period. While this doesn’t affect the effectiveness, it may be off putting for some. Nevertheless, the results are wonderful and obvious instantly after application- well-hydrated, baby soft skin with radiance and clarity.
I would say- both are fantastic! I would recommend choosing one based on your age and budget. The SKII Facial treatment Essence has a cleaner, less cluttered ingredient list that I love, but seemed to work way better for ladies over 30s as compared to fresh Black Tea Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence, which seemed to work for all ages.
However, one thing I notice is that SKII Facial Treatment Essence showed much faster, longer-lasting clarity and radiance compared to fresh Black Tea Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence, which effects does not seem to last long, plus it takes around a month of usage to really see the smoothing of complexion. I would not recommend the fresh Black Tea Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence for acne or problematic skin as well, since it did nothing for my pores or acne areas. The SKII Facial Treatment Essence, though more costly, cleared up the troubled acne regions and kept it clear all the way!
