Another splurge buy while I was in Japan, the Shiseido Elixir Superior Enriched Wrinkle Cream has been a great hit in Japan since 2017, being on COSME Japan Best Beauty Awards constantly, and sold in Japan every five seconds. Key ingredients in the eye cream includes pure retinol, an active ingredient for improving wrinkles, as well as collagen GL glycerin that gives skin its elasticity while promoting the production of hyaluronic acid for soft and moisturized skin. Full list of ingredients can be found on CosDNA here.
The Shiseido Elixir Superior Enriched Wrinkle Cream comes in an easy squeeze tube with a twist cap, with a light but rich, creamy texture that is pale yellow and easily spreadable, though with a slightly sticky finish. While the label mentioned that it has a relaxing aroma of aquatic plants, it smelled closer to a light soapy fragrance. I use this as part of my 3-step routine twice a day, by patting a pea-sized amount gently around my eyes in an upward motion, concentrating on any fine lines or wrinkles at the corners of the eye. Do note to use your sunscreen after daytime application as it contains retinol, which is a derivative of Vitamin A that could thin your skin decreasing its natural sun protection.
Over 2 weeks, the skin around my eyes was plumper with moisture, and little fine lines around the eye corners became less obvious as well. However, in humid weather, the cream can feel very sticky and uncomfortable at times, even itchy along the waterline, which I did not like. Also, it does not go well underneath make-up and clots up your foundations and powders easily. Compared to the classics such as Clarins Super Restorative Total Eye Concentrate, or Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum were much more wearable and lighter on the skin. While the Shiseido Elixir Superior Enriched Wrinkle Cream can be too rich for combination skin, it is perfect to use at night, or if you have dry, mature skin, and just looking for a super luxe eye cream for winter!
