The hunt for the perfect sunblock is never ending and it is super difficult to find one that fits your skin type and offer 360 degree sun protection while being non-comedogenic and comfortable on the skin. The Dr. G Green Mild Up Sun SPF50 PA++++ caught my eye for its water-based formulation and extremely friendly ingredients after a quick check at COSDNA.
Unlike the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+ PA++++, it primarily uses plant-based extracts and 100% Mineral or physical sun filters Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide to effectively block out UVA/UVB sun rays. While it contains certain silicones and alcohols, the amount was much lower and fared comparatively better to other sunblocks in terms of acne and irritant levels. It also contains Pathenol to strengthen skin’s protective barrier and has an unique anti-pollution formula to shield against blue light and environmental stressors.
Water, Cyclomethicone, Zinc Oxide, Propanediol, Titanium Dioxide, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Polyglyceryl-3 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Magnesium Sulfate, Salvia Hispanica Seed Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Hydrogen Dimethicone, Aluminum Hydroxide, Polyglyceryl-2 Dipolyhydroxystearate, Stearic Acid, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Phenyl Trimethicone, Fructooligosaccharides, Saccharide Hydrolysate, Pullulan, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Ethylhexylglycerin, Octyldodecanol, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Marrubium Vulgare Extract
The texture of the sunscreen is extremely lightweight and slightly viscous. I usually use a dime-sized amount for my face and spread it out evenly outwards. It has a watery texture but still sort of holds its form, and is easily spreadable on the skin. The sunscreen leaves a slight whitish cast upon first application but quickly dries off to transparency after a few minutes, brightening up the skin tone naturally. It feels very refreshing and light, and leaves the skin with a matt, hydrated finish.
The sunscreen was especially formulated for sensitive acne-prone skin, and hence is one of the mildest, most comfortable sunscreens I have ever tested. Also, it is skin-irritation tested for safety and would be ideal for all skin types as well. However, try not to apply too much as you might need additional time to wait for it to set, and might end up with an oily finish.
All in all, I am in love with this sunscreen and would be observing further to see its sun protection abilities! I also like how it has strong physical sunscreen properties, meaning I do not have to wait 30 minutes for the UV protection to set over my face as compared to chemical sunscreens. Try it out here if you have not.
